It’s time to be kind to yourself
When a couple of friends suggested a last-minute holiday in the sun, I very nearly scoffed at the idea. An actual holiday…with friends…in the sun? Surely I didn’t have time for such frivolities?! I’ve got a business to run, brides to please, mouths to feed…
It wasn’t until I reflected back on the past year and all I’ve managed to achieve that I thought, ‘hang on, I deserve a holiday, dagnammit!’
And this, it seems, should be the sentiment of every single woman out there, whether you work nine to five, look after your little ones 24/7, or do a tricky mixture of the two. You all need a much-needed break, whether that’s in Barbados, Berlin or Blackpool!
It’s very easy to continue through life as though you’re on a treadmill. Work takes over, motherhood takes over, chores take over, and before long you’ve spent another day keeping on top of things without a moment to look after yourself.
However, in order to stay on top of your game – whatever that game may be – it’s so important to practice some self-care. And that means saying ‘yes!’ to holidays, even if it’s a three-day mini-break just a stone’s throw from your front door. The important thing is that it psychologically takes you away from your day-to-day life so you can breathe, relax and ultimately be kind to yourself.
So, ladies, if you’re overdue a holiday then it’s time to stop making excuses and book the tickets. And it doesn’t have to be with hubby and kids – take a leaf out of my book and go with a gang of your besties. I promise it’ll do you the world of good.
